This Is A Blog Written On The Thoughts Of A Retired Gentleman

This is a blog written on the thoughts of a retired gentleman. From the sublime to the ridiculous, random thoughts - things seen, heard about and read. Success Means Doing The Best We Can With What We Have

“Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be.”

The Distance To The Horizon In Miles

The distance to the horizon in miles is 1.17 times the aquare root of the height of the ‘eye in feet’. Example 10 feet up equals the square root of 10 X 1.17 which is approximately 14 miles.

So the higher the lookout (’eye’), the sooner we spot land, thus the lookout in a sailing ship (’Crows Nest’) Deck - 4 miles - Mast Top - 14 miles.
