This is a blog written on the thoughts of a retired gentleman. From the sublime to the ridiculous, random thoughts - things seen, heard about and read. I have grown fond of this gentleman, and a lot of what he stands for. The blog has been separated into various categories, and will be updated on a regular basis.
The Indispensable First Step
“The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want.” ~Ben Stein
We Are All In The Gutter
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars
A cynic is a man who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing
Customs Declaration - I have nothing to declare except my genius
He (George Bernard Shaw) hasn’t an enemy in the world and none of his friends like him either
A Will - I suppose I will have to die beyond my means
“We can believe what we choose, but we are answerable for what we choose to believe.” Cardinal Newman.
Hold Fast
“Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.” ~Langston Hughes
Poetry
“IF” The Number 2 in the “Best Loved List.” Written by Rudyard Kipling. Born 1865.
Last Voice -
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue
Or walk with Kings - or lose the common touch
If neither foes or loving friends can hurt you
If all friends count with you, but none too much
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds worth of distance run
Yours is the earth, and everything that’s in it
And - what is more. You’ll be a Man, my Son.
Mental Health
Mental Health is the Cinderella of the Health Service. You SHALL go to the ball. But everything turns back into a pumpkin again at midnight. There is nothing in the “Mental Health Act” for “borderline disorder.” The number of young people committing suicide is now serious and the widespread use of drugs doesn’t help.
Happy Are Those
“Happy are those who dream dreams and are willing to pay the price to make them come true.” Anonymous
Edict Of The Roman Emperor…
Edict of the Roman Emperor Theodosius @ Nicea 316 A.D. All worship of pagan gods to cease, all people to embrace the new cult of Christianity and to believe in one God, The Father Almighty. The edict was to be enforced ruthlessly, conform or die. But, as still happens today, people followed their own beliefs behind closed doors, eg. Russia, China in Communist Era.
Relief
Do you believe there is a God eternal?
I simply know and believe that some part of the human self or soul is not subject to the laws of space or time. (Carl Jung - Psychologist, Theologian etc)
